Please be aware there is a well-dressed gentleman who has been approaching people asking them for money so that he can get his flat tire replaced. He also may tell you his son just recently was discharged from Children’s Hospital. The amount he requests varies, $13.95 to $39.00. Please know this man is trying to appropriate money – do not give him any money.

Hello folks,
In summary: don’t sign up for it!
If you have time for a longer story; here it is:
Earlier today a young man came to my door and try to sign me up for an
electrical contract. He said that his company (Justenergy) is selling
electricity at much lower rate than NSTAR, which is our local supplier by
default. He said that Justenergy guarantees a rate of 5 cents/kWh for 5 years.
NSTAR’s current rate is 7.9 cents/kWh.
I did a quick online search on that company’s background, and it doesn’t look
good. The Better Business Bureau gave Justenergy an F grade, and this is what
they say about it:
“This business has an unsatisfactory record with the Bureau due to a pattern of
complaints. Complainants allege they were subject to misleading sales practices,
such as unauthorized enrollment in the program offered, and/or misrepresentation
of contract length, and/or guarantees of savings, and/or ability to cancel the
contract after the initial three day period.”
Plenty more information available if you google: justenergy.com + scam
As always, popular wisdom applies here:
- If it sounds too good to be true…
- Never sign anything on the spot when a sale person comes to your door
- Never sign up for anything that you don’t understand.
Looking forward to seeing you at next Wednesday’s 5 Streets meeting (I’ll send
an email reminder)
